The start of my Woodland Garden

I'm SO longing for winter to end and desperately wanting to start planning my spring garden. I have chosen a woodland theme using natural materials like wood and hessian and neutral colours.

Yesterday I removed all the traces of winter. Down came all the silver and red and white and, in place I have started to place some of the planters made during the long cold days.

Garden is rather a presumptuous name since I have just a few steps leading up to the front door plus a tiny patch of earth at the bottom!

To maximise on the space I've made little plant holders to place on the steps.

Last summer was incredibly hot and dry so this year I'm sticking to cacti and hardy plants like Rosemary as they will get the full blast of midday sun.

I like to make the 'garden' fun by adding little characters.

These shoe planters are fun and perfect for cacti. Currently they are very autumnal but it's easy to change the decorations to suit different seasons.
